Roster is set for this week! We ended up with 12 full signups, so I had to trim things a bit. Haxton was trimmed tonight just so he can still get his crystals on Monday. Since Dices is getting his legendaries this week, Haxton will be in all of the future wed/thur groups so we can work on his. That frees up Monday night for Paws to get his crystals. Hopefully, by splitting this up a bit, we will end up with 4 sets of legendaries in the guild (OMG). Trying to balance out ranged and melee tonight for heroics as well.

From [icy-veins.com]

The Heroic version of the fight with Hagara is extremely similar to the normal version of the fight. The differences between Normal and Heroic mode are the following:

Main Phase: Focused Assault can no longer be avoided and each missile of Ice Lance applies a stacking debuff that increases Frost damage taken.
Ice Phase: Hagara regularly applies a debuff on players that slows movement speed.
Lightning Phase: Storm Pillars regularly appear on the platform and explode after 3 seconds, dealing proximity damage.
In 10-man Heroic difficulty, there are 8 Lightning Conductors (up from 4).

In the Main Phase, the missiles from Ice Lance now apply a stacking debuff that increases Frost damage taken by 25%. The debuff lasts 3 seconds, so anyone stacking Ice Lance missiles will end up taking +375% Frost damage.

By itself, this debuff does not prevent a player from soaking all 15 Ice Lance missiles, as they only deal 15,000 damage each. The problem comes from a player taking +375% increased Frost damage and being targeted by Shattered Ice, which deals about 100,000 Frost damage in Heroic mode.

Therefore, you need to have two players on each Ice Lance. By alternating every 2 or 3 seconds, they enable to debuff to drop, thus making the damage from Shattered Ice manageable if they are targeted by it.

Also, Focused Assault can no longer be entirely avoided. Tanks still have to move out of the attack, but Hagara will catch up much faster. To survive, defensive cooldowns and healing cooldowns will be needed.

10 Man Strategy

In 10-man groups, Shattered Ice is a lot more likely to target someone under the effect of the debuff from Ice Lance. To prevent this, there are a few strategies that you can use:

Shattered Ice appears to only target players in front of Hagara. To handle this, you can have the tank face her away from the raid and handle the damage from Shattered Ice by themselves. Alternatively, if there is a player other than the tank in front of her, they will be targeted instead, so you can use a melee DPS to take the damage from Shattered Ice and reduced tank damage.

Grounding Totem is not consumed by Ice Lance but it is consumed by Shattered Ice. So it may be a good idea to have a Shaman in the same group as the tank or the melee DPS designated to take damage from Shattered Ice, and let this Shaman drop Grounding Totem as soon as Ice Lance begins.

A healer can use a defensive cooldown during the cast time of Shattered Ice to protect the player who is being targeted.

Aura Mastery is very helpful here, unless you plan on using it during the Ice Phase for stacking in the middle (note that Aura Mastery does not work during the Lightning Phase, since the damage is Nature damage).

Dealing with Frostflake in the Ice Phase

In the Ice Phase, Hagara will target a random player with Frostflake. This debuff does no damage but it slows down the targeted player and stacks every seconds, meaning that the player will eventually come to an almost complete stop. When dispelled, the debuff leaves a Frostflake Snare on the ground. Every player standing in this 10-yard radius frost area is slowed down by 50%. Exiting the frost area removes the movement speed reduction.

The problem with this debuff is that, during the Ice Phase, raid players keep moving together to attack the Frozen Binding Crystals and avoid the Ice Wave. Therefore, dispelling the debuff immediately is not recommended, as this runs the risk that players get slowed and subsequently caught by the Ice Wave.

One possible strategy is to have targeted players enter the Watery Entrenchment and be dispelled there. They will take a few ticks of damage, but this should be manageable and the Frostflake Snare will be out of everyone's way (currently, dispelling Frostflake inside the Watery Entrenchment prevents the Frostflake Snare from being created). Another possible strategy is that targeted players move to the edges of the platform to be dispelled, though this means that other players need to be careful and stay away from the edge.

Dealing with Storm Pillars in the Lightning Phase

In the Lightning Phase, Hagara will regularly summon Storm Pillar. These pillars have a visual effect that looks like a ring. 3 seconds after they have spawned, they explode and deal 35,000 Nature damage to all players within 5 yards.

The idea is to circumvent these pillars when making a lightning chain between the conductors. It is also perfectly viable to ignore them, provided that you can heal the damage, which increases as Lightning Storm stacks build up.

Beating the Enrage Timer

To beat the enrage timer, you will need to spend as little time as possible in the Ice Phase and the Lightning Phase, where the boss is immune to damage.

Ice Phase

Below, you will find a list of tips to shorten the duration of the Ice Phase.

2 or 3 seconds before the Ice Phase starts, have the tank bring Hagara to the location where a Crystal will spawn. This will save you precious seconds traveling from Hagara to the first Crystal when the Ice Phase begins

Use movement speed buffs, such as Drums of Speed or Stampeding Roar (Bear Form), so that your melee players can rapidly switch from one Crystal to the other.

If the melee DPS are at full health, they should keep attacking the Crystal, even if an Icicle is going to fall on them.

To destroy all the crystals, your raid will normally need to go around the platform twice (although you should manage to destroy the first crystal during the first pass). To speed up this process, you should do as much damage as possible on the 3rd and 4th crystal. Then, while the bulk of the raid goes for a second pass to finish off the 1st and 2nd crystal, a few DPS players should be left to finish off the 3rd and 4th crystal. The idea is the 3rd and the 4th crystals should be destroyed at around the same time as the 2nd crystal.

Several DPS classes can be left on the 3rd and 4th crystal, thanks to their ability to avoid or reduce the damage from the Ice Waves and/or Watery Entrenchment, though any player can easily survive the 2 or 3 ticks of Watery Entrenchment that it takes to avoid an Ice Wave:

Mages with Ice Block, Blink, Mage Ward, or even Cautoerize for Fire Mages;
Rogues with Sprint and Feint;
Paladins with Divine Shield;
Death Knights with Anti-Magic Shell;
Shadow Priests with Dispersion.

Alternative Ice Phase Strategy: Stacking in Watery Entrenchment

A totally different strategy is to have the entire raid, save the melee DPS and the tank, stack up on Hagara. This will enable the ranged DPS to have a 100% uptime on the crystals (making the phase shorter), at the cost of a much increased raid damage (which will require a good AoE healing setup).

This strategy changes nothing for melee DPS and the tank who will still have to run around the platform and get their Frostflakedebuff dispelled on the edge or inside the Watery Entrenchment.

Note that the damage from Watery Entrenchmentis based on players' health, so it is advised to disable raid buffs such as Power Word: Fortitude or Commanding Shout , and to avoid using cooldowns such as Rallying Cry.

Lightning Phase

During the Lightning Phase, you will want to overload all the Crystal Conductors within a few seconds of the death of the Bound Lightning Elemental. To achieve this, the chains of players from one Conductor to another will be pre-established and each player will have a pre-determined location to go to. The add will also always be killed on the same Conductor, so that you can assign melee players a position close to this Conductor, while DPS players will be assigned positions that are further away. Each player should try to reach their position at the moment the add dies (depending on how far it is, they might have to start moving long before the add dies).

In 25-man difficulty, 6 players are required to conductor lightning from one Conductor to the other and you only need to make 3 chains.

In 10-man difficulty, you need 2 players for each chain and you have to make 7 chains (there are 8 conductors in 10-man Heroic difficulty, up from 4 in 10-man Normal difficulty), meaning that some players will need to participate in the overloading of more than just one conductor. The diagram shows a possible strategy with 4 groups, one made up of healers that will not move (so they can keep healing) and 3 others that will have to move

Note that from a single Crystal Conductor, you can propagate lightning to several other Crystal Conductors.

Finally, you should ignore the Storm Pillarwhen they spawn in the path of one of the chain of players and heal through the damage that they deal.

As you might know were trying to do heroic modes in DS10. One thing that makes a good heroic grp is flexibility. If you notice any other heroic guilds out there ull noticed that many of their raiders can do multiple specs. For an example, if we need holy priest to make the fight easier but we have an spriest in the raid, id expect the spriest to have a holy spec and one of the other healers to have a dps spec. This just makes the fight easier.

I understand that some ppl dont like to play their OS, but if you havent practiced, tried or atleast get gear for it how would you know that u wont enjoy it?

Some heroic fights require us to have 2 healers. So that the other MS healer should go dps. But we cant make any healer go dps.

Im going to use an example to make you guys undstand more and plz dont get mad:
We're stuck in Heroic Yor'sahj on the adds part. we let our healy priest go dps, why? Because shes the only healer with a dps spec and set. Now our other two healers are a druid and a shammy. Ok...were stuck on the adds part...if you check ull see that the 2 most overpowered aoe classes is a (feral/boomkin)druid and ele shammy. Spriest is no where near the aoe dmg that those two classes are.

Heals arent alone. Dps'er, as well, need to think about which spec is the most rewarding for this fight and other heroic fights.

If you havent played ur OS in along time, I think its time to start because after all we are doing heroics.

This is run is open to all Fate members.

Based on signups, it looks as though we will be doing one ten man this week.

Because this is a progression run, we may not go in the order of sign-ups, but will put together the best balance we need to get this fight down. Please come with appropriate flasks, elixirs etc.

On progression raid nights, is important that all raiders bring flasks and come prepared for the fight. This means everyone should have researched the progression fights for this week. Please take care of any external distractions prior to the raid, and make sure you have a solid understanding of the fight and your role in it prior to the time invites go out

This week's progression fights: Heroic Morchok, Heroic Ultraxion and Heroic Yoursahj

If you are unable to come for any reason, please make sure you let us know in advance. Please ask an officer for their phone number so you can text us if necessary. If possible, we also ask that you edit your signup on the forums if you are unable to make it. Invites will begin promptly at 6pm server time, with first pull by 6:30pm server. We ask that all raiders be online and ready to go by 6pm so that we can adequately forecast the roster for the night.

To sign-up for this week's raid, please sign up as "In" If (and only if) you can commit to the entire raid (6:30pm server to 9:30pm server). Otherwise, please sign up as backup. If you can make it for one day and not for the other, please let us know which day you are "In" and which day you are "Out" or "Backup." Note that preference for raid spots will go towards raiders who can make both nights of the run.

Tonight's Roster has been set! Rescuehealer is on backup for heals. If anyone was denied a spot this week, I apologize. We had 12-13 signups for a 10man group, so some tough cuts had to be made. We're looking for an experienced Linux/Apache server admin to consult with our tech guy(Alathor) about a backup system we had installed some time ago. We have 5 servers with CENTOS 5.8 i686 standard/Apache 2 and we run WHM/Cpanel. This would be a few hours of consultation and training, or it would be except that Alathor is pretty dense.

Change to Raid Roster / Signups (2 replies)

Hi Fate!

We are implementing a small change to the raid roster/signup process to help streamline our process. Right now, we have people sign up, and then we sort through those sign ups at the start of the raid. Unfortunately, this is a headache for the officers and causes delays for all of the raiders. Instead, we are going to switch to the following process:

Every week on Wednesday, Denia and Loughlin will review all of the signups for the week sometime during the day and come up with the proposed group for that week. We will identify which people will be running, which people will be sitting (if we have more people than we need for two groups, or if we have less than we need for two groups and need to drop to one group).

This means that all players must sign up prior to Wednesday. If you do not sign up prior to Wednesday, we won't know if you are coming or not, and will work on the assumption that you are not raiding that week.

We will prioritize people who will definitely be there for the week.

This means that we can do pulls more effectively at 6:30 server.

is run is open to all Fate members.

Based on signups, it looks as though we will be doing two ten mans this week. We'll know more specifics by the time invites go out.

This week's progression fights: Heroic Morchok and Heroic Ultraxion

Hi Fate raiders!

So far, we are at 1/8 with heroic Morchok down. Last week, we were able to full clear Dragon Soul in one night with two groups... to me, this indicates that we are more than capable of pushing more hardmodes. This week, we will add one additional hardmode to the list:

Heroic Ultraxion.

Of course, there is always the potential to add additional hardmodes depending on how the group is progressing, but I would like for us to at least work on Morchok and Ultraxion this week.

Here are some notes from Icy-Veins regarding the fight. I encourage all players to research this fight prior to Wednesday so as to be prepared for this encounter.

10. Heroic Mode↑top

The Heroic mode of Ultraxion is not very different from the normal mode, the biggest difference being the much higher DPS requirement. Additionally, the following things change:

* Fading Light Icon Fading Light now affects, in addition to the tank, 2 players in 10-man difficulty (up from 1) and 6 in 25-man difficulty (up from 3).
* For 5 seconds after the Fading Light debuff wears off, the player takes 100% increased physical damage (instead of generating no threat during this time).
* Hour of Twilight Icon Hour of Twilight must damage at least 2 players in 10-man difficulty (up from 1) and 5 in 25-man difficulty (up from 2) in order for the aspects to survive.
* Being in the Twilight Realm when Hour of Twilight occurs applies Looming Darkness Icon Looming Darkness, a 2-minute debuff that causes the player to instantly die if they takes any damage from another Hour of Twilight.

Additionally, Ultraxion's health pool is much higher, and the damage from his melee attacks as well as from Unstable Monstrosity Icon Unstable Monstrosity is greatly increased as well.
10.1. Strategy

The strategy for this heroic mode is similar to its normal mode counterpart. The only differences are that you will have to set up a rotation of players to survive Hour of Twilight and that you will probably have to use fewer healers in order to beat the enrage timer.
10.1.1. Soaking Hour of Twilight

As stated above, each time a player is hit by Hour of Twilight Icon Hour of Twilight, they are debuffed with Looming Darkness Icon Looming Darkness, meaning that they cannot soak another Hour of Twilight for 2 minutes. This forces the raid to establish a rotation between 3 groups of players who will take turns soaking Hour of Twilight:

* in 10-man difficulty, 3 groups of 2 players are required, which means a total of 6 players who can survive Hour of Twilight;
* in 25-man difficulty, 3 groups of 5 players are required, which means a total of 15 players who can survive Hour of Twilight;

From a player's perspective, surviving Hour of Twilight is exactly the same as it is in Normal Mode.

It is important to keep in mind that Hour of Twilight will kill players if they have the Looming Darkness debuff, even if they use a complete damage immunity to try to survive it (such as using Ice Block Icon Ice Block or Divine Shield Icon Divine Shield while under the effects of Looming Darkness).
10.1.2. Maximising DPS and Beating the Enrage

The most difficult aspect of this heroic mode is beating the enrage timer. With a bit of preparation, soaking Hour of Twilight and handling the other mechanics of the encounter will not be problematic. Most of your raid's wipes will, undoubtedly, come from insufficient DPS (and will most likely happen at agonizingly low percentages).

For this reason, you will want to bring the bare minimum amount of healers (2 in 10-man and 5 in 25-man), and have these healers contribute as much as possible to the raid DPS, at the start of the fight. Discipline Priests are especially useful here, as they can bring a solid amount of damage.

Other than this, your raid will simply have to utilise every possible advantage available to them, and may need to farm the previous bosses repeatedly to acquire enough gear.

Raiding Readiness Reminders - RRR Mateys! (15 replies)

Just a reminder to older members and a note to newer members.

Besides the usual research - raid videos, class forums, etc - that we should all be doing a little of before attempting heroics or new content, there are a few things we require for each week of raiding.

Flasks:
Before the advent of guild cauldrons, we would all be required to bring 2-3 flasks per night of raiding. Now you are required to bring 2 flasks per week of raiding or equivalent mats and deposit them in the guild bank.

Food:
Bring a good supply of your own best in class food. Feasts are optional - not provided by the guild and are usually brought by fishing and/or cooking enthusiasts or people who just prefer to have them. Guild funds allowing, we will probably start buying mats and making feasts for raid nights, but always have a backup supply of your own food. We should always enter encounters buffed to the maximum allowed in game.

Repairs:
Repairs are paid for by the guild for raid nights only. Be sure to set up your addons appropriately. Sometimes guild repairs are left on inadvertently during non raid times - please do not take advantage of this - we want to have plenty of repair funds available for heroic attempt wipefests :)

Potions:
Again, optional depending on class and/or role. But... DPS should be using pots and should also be double-potting for every encounter where this mechanic is feasible. Best in class potions are generally very inexpensive and we have many many alchemists in the guild who would be happy to make you a crapload of them if gold is short.

Enchants and Gems:
It goes without saying that everyone should have every piece of gear enchanted. If you are on an upgrade path and expect to replace a piece of gear quickly then the less expensive second-best enchant is acceptable, but for any piece that is close to best in slot for the content that is on farm, best enchants should be used. Same goes for gems - +40 or +20/+20 gems in every slot and now that the initial gold rush on the +50 (epic Dragon Soul) gems is over, these gems should be used especially in gear that you dont expect to replace for a while.

Cheers folks!

Getting geared! (1 reply)

I know that last night meeting we agreed to do some heroics and started doing some hard mode raids. I think that to make this happen is to be well prepared such as....

GET BETTER GEAR!!! Buy some VP items and replace your old armors.
FLASK!!! Normally we provide cauldrons but be prepared if we don't have any made.
FOOD BUFF!!! Skill up your cooking or ask one of us to make them for you.

Everything counts and if we all contribute to this, we can make it happen and we'll be able to rock the whole instance with no problem!

Also, having a bad internet connection or slow computer. I know that it's hard to raid when you kept getting disconnected all the time due to your internet connection or your slow computer. Trust me I know how that feels. I had the same problem but last night raid went pretty well for me. I have a slow computer so Yav downloaded the 64 bit version of WoW for me and it made a lot of difference!!! Lag is not so bad it's just the matter of knowing what to do in the raid and whatnot. If you're having with you internet connection, your cable is probably bad or your internet is just plain suck. Try to contact your internet provider and tell them your problem. I know some of our guildies mentioned that they'll help you with it just let them know.

I just want to let our new members know that if you need any help getting gears and whatnot, please let us know. I'll be happy to buy you VP BoE gears.

I want to suggest doing random runs in one of the nights that we don't raid to help out new members get better gears so when we do heroics.

Guild Meeting Notes 3/28/12 (no replies)

Thank you <Fate> for joining for tonight's guild meeting. I encourage you to leave comments, thoughts, or questions based on these notes in the thread below. We covered quite a few topics during our meeting, and I was very happy to hear the feedback from many of our members, new and old.

1. What do you want from the guild? This was the first question I asked tonight. As a whole, the raid made it clear that progression (including hard modes) was a priority for the guild. To make this happen, we need to tighten up a few things regarding recruitment, attendance, and performance.

2. Recruitment will need to continue, even if we know that it is hard during the end of an expansion. We are going to go back to doing more extensive interviews, along with an application, before bringing in new members. This will help us bring the right type of person into the guild. One of our action items will be to post the application that we are currently using to the guild so that it can be given out to people who show interest. Also, for recruitment, we are going to come up with a 'script' to use for advertising the guild in trade. We don't want to be spammers... but we want to make sure our presence is know. Our third action item regarding recruitment will be to come up with a list of steps for non-officers to follow when someone approaches them about potentially joining the guild. This will help keep the process streamlined and easy.

3. Attendance is vital because steady raid teams perform better than raid teams with rosters in constant flux. As such, we need 90% attendance from steady raiders. Of course, real life is going to step in from time to time... we understand this. But please understand that raiders with stronger attendance will get priority in raid spots over raiders with more spotty attendance. We also ask that all raiders are on time each week. Invites start at 6:00 server, with first pull by 6:30. Please be available by the time invites start. This helps us plan the night so that we can pull on time without any delays. The forums are your place to sign up each week. Please make sure to sign up each week, and if you are going to be out for whatever reason, please let us know in the forums as well. If something comes up at the last minute (you might be late, you have to sit out, etc) because of real life, please let an officer know as soon as possible, and update your signup if possible. If you do not have the phone number of an officer, feel free to ask them. We will gladly share our digits with you.

4. Performance is the barrier that stands between us and continuously downing raid bosses. Every raider needs to be able to pull their weight. Performance may be your problem as a raider, but it has an affect on the progression of the raid as a whole. This is why (and this is a blunt way of saying it) there is no excuse for poor performance. If you are having problems with gear, talents, rotation, internet connection, or boss mechanics, it is your responsibility as a raider to resolve these issues so they do no continue to impact the raid. I encourage you to leverage the assistance of your fellow guildies if you get stuck. Having an addon issue? We have brainiacs in the guild who can walk you through it. Is another player who is the same spec as you kicking your ass on the meters? Don't be jealous... pick their brain and find out what you could do differently. If there are nights where we have to bench someone because we are overbooked (more signups than spots) attendance and performance will be the criteria for deciding who gets to raid. This isn't to punish anyone. Instead, it is to avoid punishing those people who are showing up and performing their class to standard.

The end of expansion blues are not new; we've crossed this same bridge every expansion, and been stronger for it on the other side. We stay the course, but with the tweaks and focus mentioned above, and we'll be back on top again. Above all else, remember who we are as a guild: we're a group of friends who enjoy playing this game together. Let's keep focused in the upcoming months, bring our A games to the table, and put some heroic boss heads on daddy Loughlin's wall!

Hi Fate!

We're going to have a short guild meeting before our raid this Wednesday (3/28/12). Our goal is to keep the meeting to under an hour so that we don't cut into raid time too much this week. The meeting will start at 6:30 server.

What will we be discussing? Here are a couple of items on the docket:
1. Recruitment, and what you can do to help
2. Activities for non-raid nights

Hope to see you all there!
